Freshwater Species

Inshore & Nearshore Species

Offshore Species

Rep your fish. Our Fish Species line puts redfish, mahi and tarpon artwork on working tools — see the 7" Redfish Fish Species plier and the Redfish, Mahi and Tarpon Fish Species Kits (plier, bait knife and fillet knife).

How to Choose Fishing Pliers

Length. 5" to 6" pliers suit panfish, trout and light tackle. 6.5" is the all-round inshore size. 7" to 8" keeps your hands away from teeth and gill rakers on pike, bluefish, kings and offshore fish, and reaches deep hooks.

Material. Titanium (our Premio line) is the lightest and won't corrode in salt. Anodized aluminum is light and saltwater-ready at a lower price. Stainless steel is tough and budget-friendly. Carbon steel gives the most strength for the money but is best for freshwater — rinse and oil it after any saltwater trip.

Features. Look for cutters that handle braid and fluorocarbon, a split-ring tip if you swap hooks on lures, and a sheath and lanyard if you fish from a boat or kayak.

Fishing Plier FAQ

What size fishing pliers do I need?

5" to 6" pliers are ideal for panfish, trout and light tackle. A 6.5" plier is the best all-round size for inshore fishing. Choose 7" to 8" for toothy fish, deep hooks and offshore species — the extra reach keeps your hands clear.

Titanium, aluminum or stainless steel fishing pliers — which is best?

Titanium pliers are the lightest and will not corrode in saltwater. Aluminum pliers are light and saltwater-ready at a lower price. Stainless steel pliers are tough and affordable. Carbon steel pliers are strong and inexpensive but best for freshwater, since salt will rust them without a rinse and oil.

What are the best pliers for saltwater fishing?

Titanium and anodized aluminum pliers are the best choice for regular saltwater use because they resist corrosion. Stainless steel works well with a freshwater rinse after each trip.

What are the best fishing pliers for redfish?

For redfish, we recommend the 6.5" Premio Titanium in titanium, the 6.5" Pro Series Plier in aluminum or the 7" Striker — Tournament Series in stainless steel. Crusher jaws, not teeth — a 6.5–7" plier with solid cutters covers slot reds, popping corks, and leader work.

What are the best fishing pliers for snook?

For snook, we recommend the 6.5" Premio Titanium in titanium, the 6.5" Pro Series Plier in aluminum or the 7" Striker — Tournament Series in stainless steel. Sandpaper jaws and gill plates like box cutters — mid-size reach keeps hands outside the danger zone.

What are the best fishing pliers for mahi?

For mahi, we recommend the 7" Premio Titanium Offshore in titanium, the 7" Beefcake — Tournament Series in aluminum or the 7.5" Pro Series Pliers in stainless steel. Green-hot fish and flying hooks — reach and control until the color fades. Corrosion-proof matters out here.

Do Danco pliers have replaceable cutters?

Many do. Premio and Pro Series pliers use replaceable cutters, and replacement cutter kits are sold separately. Check each product page for details.

What warranty comes with Danco fishing pliers?

Danco pliers are backed by our Lifetime Warranty + 30 days no questions asked.
